After Lockdown I bought a tent, not just any tent… A roof tent. They’re everywhere now but when I first had it they were a rarity so would often have people coming over to look at the tent, (Usually while I was half naked….) they would often ask me all about it and how it was. Not these days though as every man and his dog has one, and I’m so glad!!!
They’re brilliant!! Fast to put up, fast to put down and comfortable. Mine is a Tentbox Lite, so folds out to create a large double bed inside. There is a foam mattress for comfort and plenty of pockets for storage. You can open up four sides of the tent for ventilation (which is often needed, if you know what I’m saying…) and there is a roof “Window” which lets in loads of natural light which is needed because of the make up it’s totally black out, so I don’t know where or when I am most mornings!!
We’ve taken it all over the place, tours of Cornwall, Isle of Wight, Devon, The Lake District, Yorkshire, Norfolk and the Cotswolds and I can honestly say it’s never let us down!
During one trip to the isle of wight I parked on the edge of the cliff, I’m a sucker for a view…. It was beautiful and calm when we went to sleep, however, at 2 am I was woken by a huge storm blowing us all over the shop, we didn’t go anywhere but since then TentBox have added extra straps to their newer models. The next morning I climbed down the ladder to get the coffee on and a guy who was cooking his sausages outside his caravan said with a smirk “didn’t blow away then!?” I replied and smiled, boiled the kettle and moved in-land a bit….
Anyway, that’s enough free advertising/good reviewing for one blog…. I just wanted to briefly talk about our recent group trip to Croft Farm Water Park….. A large group of us – 8 adults and 5 kids (or some would argue 13 kids) journeyed to Tewkesbury and set up camp in one of their lovely spacious fields. We barbequed, had a campfire, played rounders and on the Saturday took our paddleboards and canoes down to the lovely lake and spent the day paddling around and pushing each other off into the water! Some even hired a big pink flamingo pedalo! They tell me they are boaty people now!
A great weekend that was needed by all!
The family and I also went into Tewksbury for a look around, a stunning town which isn’t far off the M5. Check it out! Lots of quirky pubs, shops and restaurants, also the Abbey is pretty special too! I enjoyed a Fathers Day beer at The Cross House Tavern, but that’s for another blog.
Get in touch if you want more info on the roof tent!
Take it easy!!

bsolutely loved this read, TM — felt like I was right there with you, clinging to a cliff edge in a gale! 😂
Sounds like the Tentbox has given you some brilliant adventures (and a few near-lift-offs too). Great to hear it’s stood the test of time — I’ve been tempted by one myself and this might’ve just tipped me over the edge (hopefully not literally).
The Croft Farm trip sounded like pure chaos in the best way — paddleboards, flamingo pedalos, BBQs and pub stops? Count me in. Also loving the shoutout to Tewkesbury — it’s a gem of a town that doesn’t get enough credit.
Looking forward to hearing more of these tales (and those pub reviews 👀). Keep them coming!
Cheers,
