Worry On It, Not About It

For one reason or another life is very busy at the moment, specifically the work side of life. In the immortal words of Nick Cummins, “I’m busier than the last bus.”
I’m not quite sure how we got here, probably a combination of delays, project programming and the fact we’re really good at making cabinets at JFW Ltd and everyone wants us to do them!
It’s great to be busy, better this way than the other way, but there’s only so long that you can sustain working long hours, juggling different projects both physically and mentally!
When things are hard and there seems to be no end to it, I often turn to quotes, As you are aware, I’m a big fan of a quote, I’ve already written one blog on the subject, you can read it here.
Every now and again, someone says something or you read a quote in a book, if it’s good or hits home, I jot it down in my journal and make a note of the page so I can go back and give myself a little lift.
The very first quote in my latest journal is this beauty by Bruce Lee.
“Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.”
The second line is bang on the money, life is hard, it would be pretty rubbish if it was easy, we need challenge in order to feel alive, so be resilient! Because…
“A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”
And
“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor”
I think those three quotes go hand in hand. Life isn’t supposed to be easy and we’re all going to face storms from time to time. But if life is hard enough already, why do we insist on making it even harder by worrying about storms that haven’t even formed yet?
“I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.” –Mark Twain
We worry ourselves to death sometimes, I know I do, but I try to “worry on it, not about it”. Because sometimes things work themselves out when you take action. It’s like the Dalai Lama said.
“If you can do something about it, don’t worry. If you can’t do something about it, don’t worry.”
I’m writing this for myself as much for anyone else, the chances are, that by the time you are reading this, I’ll still be up to my neck in it… long days, 10 days work to squeeze into 5, rapidly approaching deadlines and far too much stuff trying to occupy the small space between my ears..
But, I’ll keep reminding myself to worry on it not about it.
In life, there will always be storms, that’s part of the deal. The trick is not wasting today’s energy worrying about tomorrow’s weather.
So, if like me you’re feeling overwhelmed at the moment, take some steps, make the phone call, have the difficult conversation, pull your scruffs on and power up that machine, anything to move you forward, because:
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away the small stones” – Confucius
Right, time to make some saw dust.
Let’s go to work
