The Hypercoaster of Life – Are We Missing the Ride?

How fast are we travelling through life!? How quick does it all seem to fly by!?
I saw something interesting the other day, I hate to say it, but it was a meme… In the olden times we’d read it in a book or the paper, but nope, this was a meme, on social media… makes me feel dirty admitting it, but that’s the reality.
I guess by admitting this I am already out of date/out of touch… If I’d have said reel or short I’d probably be more current, but anyway….
It was an old man talking to a younger man, probably his son, but who knows… He was asking him about life and how fast it seems now, and if he can compare it to being a child.
He asked him how long the summer was when he was a kid, the response was it lasted forever. Which in my experience it felt like it did! It took an age for it to be Christmas, now they come around quicker than a credit card statement.
He went on to explain that when we were younger we were taking more notice, we were learning new things all the time, whereas now, we go through life on auto pilot, doing the same routines day in day out.
I suppose that makes sense… Because when every day looks much like the last, there isn’t much to distinguish one from another. The weeks all start bleeding into one another and before you know it, another Christmas has arrived.
I am of course guilty of this… I work a lot, going through cycles at JFW Ltd of pricing, drawing, producing and installing furniture. Going from one job to another all the same cycle, albeit different types of project.
Moving from one to the next, not taking a moment to appreciate what has been delivered or celebrate those wins.
We’ve probably had the busiest summer on record, four huge jobs all happening at once, it’s incredible what we have achieved.
We’ve worked our arses off, achieved some incredible things, and I’ve barely stopped long enough to acknowledge any of it!
But I’ve gone from one to the next and without taking the time to stand back, look at what we’ve delivered and appreciate what we’ve accomplished
So from now on I’m going to make a conscious effort to take a moment every now and again… Look back at what I’ve done, appreciate the achievement and enjoy the moment before rushing head first into the next big thing!
I can’t slow down time, but perhaps I can stop it seem like it’s disappearing so quickly…
Hopefully that will slow down this Hypercoaster we call life.
I hope you can do the same.
Take it easy
